Pride 2009
Bradford Pride 2009 was a great celebration last year, starting with a 'Comedy and Culture' event on 28 May and finishing with Women's Pride, an event for women at the Alhambra on 5 June. Saturday 30 May will see the first ever major celebration in the city centre for the district's LGBT communities. They will show off Pride this year in Centenary Square for the afternoon.
Broadcaster, writer, presenter and comedienne Amy Lame kicked off the event with the rainbow flag flying over City Hall - the centrepiece of a series of Pride events from 28 May to 5 June.
The month of May also marked International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHo), which is highlighted worldwide by events on 17 May. In Bradford it will be held a day later, on Monday 18th. A Civic Reception by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, an LGB awareness training session, and stalls in City Hall.
In 2008 they organised a months worth of events with its conclusion marked by the opening of new Equity Partnership offices on the 6 November. Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Hawaran Hussain, cut the ribbon to open new offices and training facilities for the Equity Partnership.
Some of the events featured were an evening of Comedy & Culture for the launch of the LGB Digital Archive at the Colour Museum, Pink Feather women only disco at Candy & International drag show at the Sun Hotel and numerous LGTB films being shown at the Media Museum & a Queer ART Exhibition at the University. The Main Event was held at Bradford University Communal Building on Saturday 11th October. The line-up included Hazell Dean, Rowetta from X-Factor, Kinisha, Gay Abandon Choir, Angela Brown, Bollywood Dancers & more.
