Brighton & Hove Winter Pride Week
7th to 15th March 2009
Brighton & Hove Winter Pride contains something for everyone, from clubbing to comedy. A week of events run by Brighton Pride, bars, clubs, businesses and the voluntary sector. In order to "beat the winter blues" and raise funds for the summer line-up and parade (with monies to help fund local LGBTQ charities) it's no wonder that Brighton and Hove is considered the largest free event in the UK.
Last year the event ran in February with over 70 events throughout the week. More than 35 different venues where involved along with local community groups, businesses and volunteers. Twelve events were grant funded by Brighton Pride, including nude swims, conferences, lectures, comedy workshops and music.
Highlights included:
- The Brighton Wotever Crew are held their first Wotever weekender during Winter Pride with two days of workshops.
- An evening of 17th & 18th Century baroque music at the Unitarian Church
- An 80's trans disco at Brighton Royal Hotel
- For the first time ever The Marlborough Little Theatre present a special Winter Pride pantomime; Fingeralla and the Smuggly Fisters is Cinderella with a twist!
- The local LGTBQ business community held quizzes, cabaret, music, karaoke, casino nights, comedy nights and not forgetting round three of the now famous lesbian mud wrestling!
