Liverpool - Homotopia
1st to 30th November 2009
The definition of art generally tends to lend itself toward the grand and vibrant. It is widely aknowledged that a play can change the view of the spectator and that the creations and (and illusions) of the stage can bring tears to the hardest of faces. Fitting then that Liverpool has chosen to create diversity within its extremely cultural city by holding Homotopia, a bold and ambitious two week festival featuring a variety of entertainment including theatre, film, art, performance, photography, heritage and storytelling.
Since its creation in 2004, numbers have risen from 2,750 people to more than 12,000 last year. The festival, which ran throughout November delivered over 50 events including a new strand of international art and a dedicated web-based TV station. Since Homotopia launched they have supported an extraordinary range of Liverpool based companies, artists, events and performances including Outsiders - Liverpool’s first Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, The Lavender Club, Hello Sailor, Queer Storytelling Festival, Gayzin Liverpool Film, It’s A Drag Exhibition, Tales From Yester-Queer - Liverpool’s first ever research project into the hidden history of LGBT Liverpool, The Laramie Project, Wildelife, House Of Suarez 'Liverpool Is Burning', Gerry Potter 'Miracle', Robert Sinclair, Label, Jay McWinen 'Tea For Two', Colin Holmes 'Hornamental', Chris Turrell, Strip, Sandi Hughes 'Gayzin The Lord Mayors Parade', Wimfest, Neapolitan, Evol and Worship.
