2009.... An Overview

Last year (2009) was Manchester's seventeenth arts festival. The festival ran from the 9th of May til the 25th. Highlights from last years festival included Armistead Maupin (the writer of Tales From The City), Jackie Kay, Stella Duffy, Jake Arnott and Patrick Gale (all discussing and sampling their writing), Quarantine bring us another fabulous theatre performance with Susan & Darren (the story of a partying mother and son)... The list is truly endless!

History of Manchester - Queer Up North

As always, Manchester - Queer Up North is set to provide us with its unique blend of dance and debate, clubs and comedy, literature and live art, plays and puppetry. These are just some of the experiences that have been on offer since 1992 at Manchester's international festival of queer arts and culture. Beginning life as "It's Queer Up North", when it was founded by Tanja Farman and Gavin Barlow, two members of staff at Manchester venue Greenroom, it was a play on the well known phrase "It's grim up north".
