Last year, Oxford Pride markied the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots this year with a theme of "Summer of Love - Remembering 1969". It acted as a fitting tribute to honour the memory of those who have fought for our human rights and helped to raise awareness for our LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Trans) communities in many parts of the world.
The line-up for last years festival included DJ & MC Marc Abercrombie, Liz Oki & Souls of Prophecy, Rabbit Foot Spasm Band, Stevie (Swindon Idol), The Fluer ette’s, Nicolette Street, Kevin Lee Britt, Lydia Pritchard, Rose Garden, Angie Brown, Grey Matter, Kelly Wilde, Lee Devon, Cavali and Loz.
A Bit of History.....
Oxford have officially celebrated Gay Pride since the 3rd May 2003, with its first ever Gay Pride Event. Oxford City Council wholeheartedly supported the project from the start, offering the use Oxpens Field and providing advice of their own events team. Since then Gay Pride has gone from strength to strength. It really is a community event that aims to bring together the WHOLE community and this may be part of the reason that prestigious names such as Sir Ian Mckellen have praised the Gay Pride and its organisers. Their first Gay Pride Parade took place last year.
