A (Somewhat) Brief History of LGBT Pride
An Overview...

Throughout history homoerotic art has been presented as an example of the long-standing relationship between society and the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans) community. Whilst this shows us that our community has existed 'throughout time', what it does not show is that for the dominant part of society, the LGBT community was not only accepted but also considered to be an integral part of life. Not everyone falls into the category of LGBT and yet 60% of the population is considered (by most modern research) to have a certain degree of bisexuality... though not many of that percentage will (because of the culture we live in) feel able to express their desires or their feelings. All this tells us is that we're not as alone as we think...

The ironic part about the LGBT community is that unlike a religious group, a nationality or some of the other social groupings that exist today (such as British, European, Christian, Jewish or Muslim)... LGBTQi individuals can be born in ANY of these larger groups and MANY of those groups are far from tolerant of it.

By looking back through history we can see for ourselves that, whilst our position in society may have been, and continues to be in many respects, controversial, we are here to stay and by knowing what has happened in our past... we can perhaps mark out a clearer path for our future.

Here are some of the main areas that we can look at clearly to perhaps mark out some conclusions...
