Gay Pride UK Projects
Gay Pride UK has a number of different projects running that they would like to see instituted across all Pride events in throughout the country (if not across the globe). This is because with the new millennium comes a new set of problems for both the LGBT communities and for equality and diversity as a whole.
We would like to see pride as something everyone can enjoy, participate in and ultimately share. The LGBT community may have started Pride, but everyone is entitle to be proud to be equal and accepting of everyone else’s equality.
If you would like to see any of these projects introduced into Pride events across the country, please make a donation to Gay Pride UK. Minimum donation is £1 and we will make sure that the funds are appropriated to the project of your choice*.
The Water Project
Because all Pride events are run on a regional level, many use outside bar companies that charge large amounts money for water by comparison to the alcohol that they sell. We believe water should either be free... or as close to it as possible in order to ensure that those who do not wish to drink can have access to water and for those who do, a bottle or two may help with the hangover in the morning at least!
The Gay Pride DVD
With over 70 events across the country, Gay Pride in the UK could be considered the largest and most diverse festival in the country…. And yet these events only get the briefest of television coverage. Gay Pride UK are working with a DVD company to record a large number of different pride events and (hopefully) generate a televised documentary from the material.
It is about time that the general population of the UK got to see what Pride is really about for the LGBT community!
The Resource Materials Project
Gay Pride UK aim to distribute packs that contain information about LGBT history, useful organisations to contact, LGBT definitions, a list of major pride events and a breakdown of Gay Pride UK.
The packs will also have badges, t-shirts, banners and lots of other fun and useful resources that will raise the profile and visibility of Gay Pride UK. We aim to distribute these packs to colleges/universities throughout the country and at Pride events nationally.
The "To Absent Friends" Project
Although many of us realise that there are people who would be at a Pride event but, for whatever reason, are unable to attend. Be this misconceptions about the nature of Pride and the LGBT community... to the many millions over the space of millennia that have died for equal rights, Gay Pride UK would like Pride organisers to ask one of their performers to make a public toast "to absent friends" followed by a rendition of Gloria Gaynor's "I am what I am".
This powerful, yet non invasive message reminds the participants of Pride that they are not just here for themselves and their own, but for every one, both present AND absent, for whatever reason.
The "All Born Equal" Project
Gay Pride UK believes that sexuality is an extremely diverse field. No matter how many times you try to break down sexual preference and sexuality, the more boxes you end up with and the more confusing this can become. We are all individuals and for that reason we should ALL be entitled to pride.
We understand that historically Pride has been in existence to liberate the LGBT community. Let us use this powerful tool to create pride in a society that is truly equal. By including all of those who wish to participate and make Pride for those who believe we are ‘all born equal’ and completely understand that dispelling ALL forms of prejudice is why these events exist, we have the opportunity of not just creating more equal rights for the LGBT community, but also using our influence to shape a better world for us all.
For these reasons, Gay Pride UK will (by any appropriate means)
encourage Pride organisers to adhere to and actively promote inclusion and adopt the policy that everyone is welcome at pride... As long as the individuals understand that we are "all born equal".
*Any excess funds that are received that are not used on the project of your choice will be appropriated accordingly by Gay Pride UK Limited.
